This week is Climate Week

Scotland’s Climate Week has officially begun! Organised by Zero Waste Scotland, we will see how organisations across not only North Ayrshire, but Scotland as a whole, raise awareness on the importance of tackling climate change.

Stay tuned to social media throughout the week to learn about how the council is working towards becoming a net zero local authority by 20230 and how you can help make a difference. #ScotClimateWeek

It follows on from Recycling Week 2025 , so here’s a reminder to everyone about the correct recycling of vapes and batteries – one of the main causes of bin fires in recent months.

One of the main offenders when it comes to contamination of kerbside bins is batteries including vapes.
These items are a serious fire risk and should NOT be placed in any domestic bins.
Small devices containing batteries including vape products can be recycled at your local HWRC site or visit the Recycling Your Electricals website to find your nearest recycling point.
Shops who sell these items should take them back for disposal. This includes most major supermarkets. #RightStuffRightBin

Take climate action now!

Did you know that recycling is one of the most effective ways that you can impact climate change now because it helps us to reduce the need for new materials, reduces energy and it conserves natural resources while lowering pollution.

The less waste that ends up in incinerators and landfills the better. If you want to reduce your greenhouse gas emissions, take a climate pledge this week to recycle the best you possibly can. Our Waste Awareness Officer Lisa shares some tips for the home and workplace here.

Alternatively you can drop down to see her team on Tuesday 30 September where there will be a pop up on the ground floor of Cunninghame House to raise awareness of recycling and Scottish Climate Week.

Join the Climate Champions

If you want to step up and support the council’s climate change and sustainability efforts, the Energy and Sustainability team are recruiting now for colleagues to volunteer to become Climate Champions.
