iLearn module will help staff to find out more about children’s rights

Many colleagues across Council services will already be aware of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC).

This, basically, provides protection for the fundamental rights of children and young people across the country.

The Convention – which is the gold standard for children’s rights and the blueprint for the Council – details how we must protect, listen to and nurture our children.

To raise awareness of our responsibilities and why we should always ensure that our young people have a voice a new iLearn module has been created.

The short module is mandatory and only needs to be completed once by staff. However, it is very important that all staff complete it and gain an understanding of what UNCRC means and what our responsibilities are.

The UNCRC affects EVERYONE in our Council in EVERY service – not only services traditionally associated with children such as education, housing or social work.

On completion of the new iLearn module, all colleagues should be able to:

  • Understand the concept of children’s rights in relation to the UNCRC
  • Identify key principles and provisions of children’s rights
  • Explore the connections with relevant policy and legislation and
  • Have awareness of how these rights can be upheld within operational duties.

Understanding the UNCRC is everyone’s responsibility. Please take some time to login to iLearn and complete this new mandatory module.
