Council colleagues looked pretty in pink as they raised more than £500 for cancer charity.
Council staff had fun while supporting a serious cause when a coffee morning was held for the Breast Cancer Now charity.
Breast Cancer Now is a research and care charity, and its Wear It Pink fundraising day has been going for 20 years.
On October 21st, Customer Services Senior Manager Elaine Nixon and her team hosted a coffee morning and raffle on the third-floor contact centre at Cunninghame House.
October was Breast Cancer Awareness Month and their fabulous effort raised £557.50.
Elaine (pictured above right), who was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2019 and 2021, said:
“I am fine now and I have finished all my treatment and glad to be back at work. I know of at least another five women who work in Cunninghame House who have also been through the same thing. It has touched a lot of women at the Council. It is like a wee club that you don’t want to be part of, but we are a great support to each other.
“I would say to women to be vigilant and check yourself. Early diagnosis is absolutely key and you should go to your GP quickly if you have any concerns at all. It is so important to be seen by your doctor as quickly as possible. My annual mammogram diagnosed it the second time, and I was really lucky that it picked it up at an early stage.”
Elaine would like to thank her team for their support, everyone who donated raffle prizes and bought tickets and the Council’s catering team for donating home baking and tea and coffee.
She added: “Thank you so much to those of you who managed to attend our coffee morning and bought raffle tickets. We had a great turnout and managed to raise a grand total of £557.50, which is amazing!
