It was a special day recently for staff and pupils at Moorpark Primary School when it was formally opened by North Ayrshire Provost Anthea Dickson.
While the school has opened its doors to pupils for a number of months, it has now had an officially celebration – culminating in the unveiling of the plaque to formally mark the occasion.
As well as speeches, the school choir performed a rousing rendition of ‘Give us hope’, while the senior pupils sang the Queen classic ‘We will rock you’.
The primary ones and two also wowed the audience with their take on the Will.i.am song ‘What I am’ and there was also a showstopping version of ‘Watch the flowers grow’ from the p3s and p4s.
The new facility – sitting adjacent to the former building – welcomed staff for the first time on Monday (28 October) with the pupils joining them from Wednesday (30 October) to commence a new chapter in their learning journey.

The school has 12 primary classes and a 16-place early years provision and its spacious hall, breakout areas and an all-weather pitch offer a fantastic and welcoming new learning environment.
Constructed by Clark Contracts, the building – part of North Ayrshire Council’s Capital Investment Programme – also has sustainability and the environment at its heart.
As one of the Council’s key priorities, the environmental performance of the building was a significant factor in the development of its design and selection of materials.
Some of those key features include:
- an effective natural ventilation strategy which will provide natural, fresh air throughout the year and solar pv panels provide free, renewable electricity for the school building
- improvements to local pedestrian and cycle pathways
- the provision of new cycle and scooter storage facilities at the school for all pupils, staff and visitors to use
Sam Anson, Executive Director (Education), was the compere for the day and was proud to be part of the day. He added: “The young people were a credit to the school today and I’m sure the opening will be just one of the many amazing memories they will have from their time at Moorpark.
“A big thanks to Rachael and her team for a fantastic day and we are sure they will continue to provide a fantastic learning environment for the young people.”
“Huge thanks to the Provost for officially opening our wonderful new school. I am incredibly proud to be the Head Teacher and am supported by a fantastic staff, school community, and most importantly brilliant young people.
