Every Tuesday in September and October you can join Beith Trust for a lead cycle through the hills and paths of the Garnock Valley. Completely free and no better way to get outdoors and get some exercise. Book your spot online here.
Whether you’re an avid cyclist, or new to cycling, the Council’s Trinity Active Travel team have teamed up with Beith Trust to encourage Garnock Valley residents and visitors to saddle-up for their latest round of guided weekly cycles.
The perfect chance to experience the fantastic accessible cycle routes Beith has to offer, the weekly lead cycle sessions will take place every Tuesday throughout September and October.
Leaving at 18:30pm from Geilsland Estate, Beith, (meeting point will be outside the main entrance next to the café) each cycling session offers a friendly get together for participants to experience an enjoyable, leisurely cycle.
Everyone who takes part in the sessions must be able to ride a bike. Helmets are mandatory on all cycle rides and the Active Travel Team recommend wearing your own high-visibility clothing.
Participants must be 12 and over to take part and if between the ages of 12 and 17 they must be accompanied by a parent/guardian.
With varying cycle routes depending on the weather and ability of the group, each cycle session’s route will be decided by an experienced Cycle Ride Leader.
Although most cycle routes will be off-road, some may involve sections on road. If you have any questions before taking part or are looking for more demanding experienced cycling sessions, contact the team directly at: activetravelandtransport@north-ayrshire.gov.uk
And that’s not all, if you’re new to cycling or it’s been a long time since you’ve taken your bicycle for a spin, the team are also running a 5-week beginner’s cycling programme too from Saturday 3 September.
Taking place at Geilsland Estate, the 5-week course will take place every Saturday morning 11am-12pm until Saturday 1 October and anyone interested in learning to cycle is invited to come along. Sessions are aimed at 6 and over although if between the ages of 6 and 17, participants must be accompanied by a parent/guardian.
Jessica Tang from the Active Travel Team commented: “Covering everything from bike maintenance, confidence building, and a group lead cycle, the beginner’s course is a great opportunity to learn everything you can about cycling, keeping on top of bike maintenance and improving your overall confidence in cycling.
“So if you’re looking to have fun, keep fit and and also appreciate the beauty that Beith has to offer by bike, why not come along?”
The beginners’ cycling course is completely free however places are limited, so register in advance via the website link here: https://tinyurl.com/beginnerscycling
With Autumn just around the corner, the cycle sessions are the perfect opportunity for people of all abilities to gain their confidence, cycle safely and plan their next cycle route in the Garnock Valley so they can continue to enjoy exercising by bike over the coming months.
