Learn to play guitar for FREE

Are you looking for an exciting new hobby that will help you to escape the stresses of your week?

Well, if taking time for mindfulness and relaxation isn’t for you, why not try something NOISY and new?

North Ayrshire Council’s Libraries’ team have the perfect outlet as they are encouraging people to take up a new hobby this summer… acoustic guitar!

All part of a the We Make Music Instrument Libraries project*, the learn-at-home opportunity is allowing people to borrow acoustic guitars from Kilbirnie, Kilwinning, Largs and Stevenston libraries so that local residents can strum at home, for FREE!

Guitars are one of the most universally played instruments and compared to other musical instruments like violin and piano, learning guitar is relatively easy to master.

Alison Mcallister (Library & Information Services Manager) commented: “A great distraction and proven to release endorphins and promote creative thinking, learning to play guitar has a host of benefits.

“So, if you want to boost your confidence, work on improving your memory and eye coordination or simply for an enjoyable outlet to relieve stress and anxiety, why not give it a go?

“The project is just one of many local initiatives out there to help residents learn new skills and look after their health and wellbeing. Our We Make Music Instrument Libraries project is a unique learning opportunity in partnership with the Council to do just this… Much like borrowing a book from the library, borrowing and learning guitar is very easy to do.

“Simply pop along to the library in Kilbirnie, Kilwinning, Largs and Stevenston and borrow using your library card. Not a member, here is how you can join online now: Join the library (north-ayrshire.gov.uk)

“The team will then provide you with an acoustic guitar, its own carry case and details of how to access the easy-to-follow online tutorial guide.”
