Let’s move for our mental health

Our social media channels will be packed full of helpful information and news stories next week to support this year’s Mental Health Awareness Week.

Mental Health Awareness Week 2024 gets under way on Monday 13 May, with a theme this year of ‘Moving more for our mental health’.

Walking and being outdoors is known to be beneficial to our mental wellbeing, and a series of walks around North Ayrshire will be led by KA Leisure during the week.

Details are as follows:

  • Monday 13 May: Leaving from St Margaret’s Parish Church, Dalry, at 11.30am
  • Tuesday 14 May: Leaving from the entrance to Auchenharvie Leisure Centre, Stevenston, at 3pm
  • Wednesday 15 May: Leaving from the main entrance of Vikingar, Largs, at 3pm
  • Thursday 16 May (Wear it Green Day): Leaving from the horse statue at Eglinton Park at 2pm (please feel free to wear something green)
  • Saturday 18 May (Early Riser Walk): Leaving from the HMS Dasher memorial, Ardrossan South Beach, at 7am.

The activities will involve Nordic Walking (using poles, which will be provided) and some strength and balance exercises added at various points on the route. After the walk, participants can join a short, adapted Tai-Chi session, plant a sunflower, or just stick around for a chat and a cuppa!

You can book your place on a walk by calling 01294 270796, emailing mba@kaleisure.com, or by using the online booking form.

We’ll also be supporting this year’s event by sharing posts from both the NAHSCP and NAC social media channels, so please keep your eye out for the #NAMentalHealthMatters hashtag and share to your own service’s social media channels where appropriate.

Additionally, if any staff teams would like to participate by holding a ‘Wear it Green Day’ that week, then a useful resource pack for workplaces or schools can be downloaded from the Mental Health Foundation website.
