The countdown to Marymass Saturday has officially begun! From fireworks to folk music, crowning to comedy, racing to rock music, horses to history – the event features a packed programme of activities for the whole family to enjoy.
Irvine’s Marymass Festival begins this week with the opening ceremony on Thursday 17 August at Irvine Townhouse from 8pm – where the Provost will be in attendance. Outside the Townhouse, there will be activities for everyone to enjoy including FREE face-painting and balloon modelling.
Then, at around 9.40pm on Thursday evening, the Marymass Captain will be announced with a piper leading the Carter’s to the Townhouse where the Marymass Queen and Mary’s will be sashed and Marymass will be officially underway. Stay tuned to the Marymass Festival Facebook for live updates…
The shorter Fourth Port parade will take place on Saturday 19th of August (11am – 1pm) giving horse owners the chance to trial in a parade environment before Marymass Saturday (next weekend) – this is a lovely spectacle for local children and families to enjoy and visitors far and wide before the main event next weekend.
Local horse owners are being encouraged to participate. Starting at Second Avenue (behind Sainsburys) at 11am, the Fourth Port parade snakes through Fullarton and Harbourside before ending at Cunninghame House at 1pm.
