New study spaces in our libraries

Do you know a young person in need somewhere to study? Are they struggling to concentrate with the temptation of scrolling on their phone or other distractions at home? Well, North Ayrshire Libraries has young people with upcoming exams covered!

With exam season now in full swing, pupils and students are being encouraged to take up the offer of using free ‘Study Spaces’ in North Ayrshire Libraries.

From group study spaces perfect for collaboration and individual study desks for concentration, all libraries across North Ayrshire have free WIFI and safe and comfortable spaces designed for quiet study.

The study spaces are first come, first served, on a drop-in basis.

Although you don’t need to be a library member to use the study spaces, membership will bring other benefits such as accessing PCs, printing, photocopying, books, e-books, magazines, newspapers and more…

Those looking to become new library members can sign up online now to take full advantage of a North Ayrshire Libraries membership.

All libraries also have friendly, knowledgeable staff on hand for anyone needing support with finding books, study materials or online resources.

The new study spaces are perfectly timed with many pupils now on study leave.

So, if you know someone in North Ayrshire who is looking for a change of scenery to break up their study routine and provide a reset if they are feeling stressed, why not encourage them to drop in to their local library?

Young person studying in North Ayrshire Library study space

Studying in a library is recommended as it provides free access to resources like books and computers in a structured setting, free from distractions.

Developed earlier this year, the dedicated study spaces have been funded by the Scottish Library and Information Council through the Scottish Government’s Public Library Improvement Fund.

In addition to library study spaces, please remember that support is available if you know a young person who is struggling with studying and exams.

Encourage them to speak to their teacher, a trusted adult or a member of library staff if they need to talk and if you are a parent or carer supporting someone though the stressful exam period, check out the Parent Club website for helpful tips, advice and information.
