The Council is developing the North Ayrshire Nature Network. NANN for short!
The NANN Strategy document – which is our blueprint for tackling the nature emergency and adapting to climate change locally – was approved by Cabinet in March.
The NANN will connect nature-rich sites, restoration areas and other environmental projects. It will also help the Council to tackle the climate and nature crisis through nature-based solutions.
NANN will deliver community lead nature-based solutions across all six North Ayrshire Localities. These nature-based solutions will help our communities to adapt to the impacts of climate change.
It is not just about nature restoration and nature-based solutions. It will also help to tackle the disconnection between people and nature in North Ayrshire.
Tackling this disconnection will also help the Council deliver on its four Council Plan Priorities of:
- Wellbeing
- Communities and Local Democracy
- A Sustainable Council and
- Climate Change
NANN will support the delivery of each priority. To achieve this, we will need to raise the awareness with Council officers.
Neal Lochrie, the Council’s Biodiversity Officer, is running a workshop that will explore the ways Council Officers can help deliver NANN and the ways that NANN can help support staff to deliver their priorities.
The first workshop will be held online on Tuesday, 29 July from 2pm to 3pm and will be repeated on Friday, 1 August at the same time.
