Occupational Health – telephone appointments

This approach will also be adopted for the majority of CBT (Cognitive Behaviour Therapy) appointments.

As part of the ongoing review of the provision of Occupational Health Services to improve and streamline these where possible, we have begun expanding the use of consultations with an Occupational Health Adviser conducted by telephone.

This approach will also be adopted for the majority of CBT (Cognitive Behaviour Therapy) appointments.

What are the benefits of a telephone consultation?

The key benefits include:

Convenience for the employee
Less travel time to Irvine, so less impact on service delivery
Less complex cases can be dealt with in timelier manner and therefore clinics do not overrun

What about confidentiality?

Telephone consultations carry the same degree of confidentiality as a face-to-face one. Identify is confirmed at the start of the conversation. Employees should ensure that they have a suitable place to take the phone call at the date/ time the consultation is organised for.

Are they suitable for everyone?

No. Employees with hearing, speech or other communication difficulties, or where the referral has additional complexities, will require to be assessed at a face to face appointment. Cases will also be triaged by a senior clinician to ensure that telephone consultations are appropriate.
