Online info session for those who want to mentor young people

All young people are talented, however many face challenges in their lives that make it harder for them to succeed.

National mentoring charity MCR Pathways is seeking volunteers who can ‘Share an Hour’ and provide more young people with a mentor who’s there just for them.

MCR carefully matches young people with a mentor to meet in their school for just one hour each week, with this one-to-one relationship often making a profound impact on their confidence. With their mentor’s help, they feel supported to focus on their future pathway.

No qualifications are needed to become a mentor, just the desire to make a difference.

As well as the life-changing impact on a young person, volunteers also benefit, gaining new skills in active listening, communication and leadership. If you’re interested in finding out more about becoming a mentor in North Ayrshire, visit the MCR Pathways website.

MCR Pathways is recognised for its national, award-winning mentoring programme. Their vision is for all young people to experience equality of education outcomes, career opportunities and life chances.

The charity’s school-based mentoring programme supports young people to find, grow and use their talents – check out the videos in this article from Auchenharvie and Irvine Royal Academy to find out more about how pupils and mentors have benefitted.

You can use the council’s allowance of hours from our Volunteering Policy (Employees will be granted paid time to attend all types of volunteering events up to a maximum of 14 hours per employee per calendar year).

Please note: Our Volunteering Policy will cover the duration of the training only therefore, if you are giving young people an hour of your week each week, you would need to make use of FLEXI/TOIL.
