Tyre Safety Month: Safe tyres, save lives!

North Ayrshire Council are supporting the national Tyre Safety Month throughout October.

Delivered by national charity TyreSafe, as part of the important awareness month, we wanted to share their video on how to check tyre tread and ensure you are driving safely this Autumn/Winter and all year round.

For more information, visit the TyreSafe website to find out how to check your tyres tread, PSI and general condition of tyres on different types of vehicles and lots more…

It is always recommended to carry out regular maintenance checks on your vehicle including checking your tyres.

Do you know the penalty for tyres below the legal limit?  Per tyre the penalty is 3 points and out to £2,500 fine.  If in doubt, find a trusted tradesman to check your tyres.

Remember, A.C.T now! Safe tyres save lives.

All of the important tyre checks combined can be remembered at the acronym A.C.T:

  • Air Pressure – Check your tyre pressure monthly using a reliable gauge to ensure it matches the manufacturer’s recommendations.
  • Condition – Regularly inspect tyres for cuts, bulges, or any visible damage. Pay attention to sidewalls and tread for signs of wear.
  • Tread Depth – Measure tread depth across the central three-quarters of the tyre. Replace tyres if the tread depth falls below 3mm.

Staff are also encouraged to stay safe when driving at this time of year. Read the Winter Road Safety Tips article for more information.
