Irvine Cricket Club, just a stones throw away from Cunninghame House, are on the look-out for new members of all ages…
One of the town’s longest running sports clubs, Irvine Cricket Club at Marress Road was first formed in 1836.
A family-based club providing both excellent training facilities and game days on both midweek and weekends, the community cricket club are on the look-out for both adults and kids aged 7 years+.
Their grounds are within Irvine Community Sports Club at Marress Road. There’s a covered decking area for viewing and a separate enclosed kids area – recently overhauled thanks to a funding boost secured by Irvine Locality Partnership via the North Ayrshire’s Community Investment Fund. Working closely with K:A Leisure and taking school gym classes for North Ayrshire schools, the club also has after school clubs and runs school competitions.
The team are actively looking to encourage new players 16+ to join our club. Whether you have played before or are keen to give it a go, we are more than happy to accommodate all levels and abilities. We train indoors currently until Easter before moving outdoors at our home ground.
Equally if you have a family who love “rounders” or “baseball” why not get them involved with cricket?
Waste Awareness Officer, Mike Ingram currently plays with the team and is encouraging colleagues and their families to consider getting involved. He shares: “Due to a recent drop in numbers, we are actively trying to recruit more players.
“Personally, I have been playing cricket most of my adult life. It’s a great team sport that you can be yourself and your performances help the team. You can bat, bowl or just be a great fielder, everyone contributes and gets involved. The friendships I have made both myself and my family last a lifetime.
“Our kids are now playing and our friends kids come along as well. The game is now expanding more than ever, and we are looking to make Irvine Cricket Club as strong as possible as we approach 200 years in the town…
“We play in the Western District Cricket Union with teams between Dumfries in the south and Helensburgh, Isle of Bute, up to Stirling playing within our league structure. We also enter a national competition which has say us play at such places as Hawick and Huntly.
“If you come to practice and enjoy it, memberships are only £20 a month for kids and £25 for adults and all equipment is provided.”
