North Ayrshire Youth Services are taking to the road to roll up to a town near you this summer. Taking place in the Council’s Mobile Youth Centre (MYC), the youth hub on wheels ready to take to a town near you again this summer.
Behind the scenes, Vicki Irvine and Dionne Griffiths – our Mental Health and Wellbeing Project Delivery Officer’s – have been working hard to get prepared for a summer of fun on the road.
Vicki shares: “We are so excited to get out and about in our communities again this summer, let’s hope this sun keeps on shining!
“All part of 2023’s ‘Take Time’ campaign, the free summer activities we are offering for families are focused on a health and wellbeing theme, but most importantly, the van is going to offer lots of fun without anyone having to travel far from home.”
Set up by the Council’s Community Learning & Development team, MYC is now in its 15th year running and was established to provide youngsters with a friendly and familiar space for community collaboration and inspiration.
Dionne adds: “We promise a summer to remember for all the kids, young people and families who are planning on coming along.
“The roadshow will stop off across different areas of North Ayrshire. Completely FREE with anyone welcome to enjoy, the roadshows will have lots of children, young people and families.
“We are also going to have health, wellbeing and Cost of Living support and information will also be available on the day, including a variety of exciting activities and opportunities to get involved in.”
With a petting zoo, inflatables, mobile youth centre, wellbeing workshops, information stalls and much more, our Take Time on the Road team can’t wait to roll through a town near you.
Young people across communities and schools are invited to come along to take a tour of the exciting space and learn more about what Youth Services have to offer.
Donna Anderson, Youth Participation Officer shares:
“Thank you to Vicki, Dionne and our extended team of youth and communities officers and of course our talented team of Youth Work modern apprentices who have been working hard to get us ready for the launch of MYC 2023.
“This is another great step forward in ensuring young people in North Ayrshire remain connected during the summer break and will provide a helping hand to residents in need of a boost over the summer break, especially with so many people still feeling the pinch due to the Cost-of-Living crisis.
“Building on the Council’s Young People’s Participation and Citizenship Strategy, MYC is a brilliant way of going to where young people are to hear their views and experiences as we enjoy the activities together.
“Giving us the unique ability to reach wider audiences, the state-of-the-art, youth hub on wheels will help our youth workers to deliver meaningful activities and provide young people with a place to relax, unwind and connect with others in their communities during the summer break.
“Our youth workers are set to hit the ground running with this fantastic community space, so why not come along and meet them this summer?”
