In support of LGBT History Month and LGBT Youth Scotland’s annual Purple Friday campaign (which is held on the last Friday in Feb) – colleagues from Youth Services and their team of Youth Work Modern Apprentices will be taking part in a fundraising walk on Friday 16 February.
The team will be meeting at Irvine Point Compass Car Park at 10am, on Friday (16 Feb) then walking down Harbour Road and up Gottries Road continuing over to the Boating Pond walk – and staff who would like to take part are invited to get involved too.
This walk is wheelchair accessible, with no steep hills.
The funds raised from this charity walk will support LGBT Youth Scotland as Scotland’s national charity for LGBTQ+ young people. Donations can be made on the walk on the day – Youth Services will be on hand to show you how to do this online.
Purple Friday’s aim this year, is to invite young people and those working with them to champion LGBTQ+ visibility by lighting up Scotland with the Purple Friday: Miles for Money Challenge.
A spokesperson for LGBT Youth Scotland said: “Visibility is so important for LGBTQ+ young people.
“It shows them that they are seen and loved for who they are. It challenges stereotypes, dispels ignorance, and fosters acceptance. Being a visible ally for LGBTQ+ equality opens hearts and minds, creating a more inclusive Scotland for all.β
The event is a great opportunity for physical activity and a chance for us to make a positive impact in our community.
