Self-Neglect Awareness

Self-neglect is a behavioural condition where a person fails to care for their own personal hygiene, surroundings and health and this is often paired with a refusal of help from friends, family and services. In extreme cases, adults have died due to self-neglect. It is often a complex situation, and early identification and lawful intervention is key. On this event we encourage attendance across NAC and our multi-agency partners, to know the early signs of self-neglect and how to refer to Health & Social Care Partnership and when to apply the criteria of Adult Support & Protection (Scotland) Act 2007.
Hoarding Disorder Awareness

Hoarding is a compulsion to gather possessions, coupled with an inability to discard and organise items, leading to severe clutter and an inability to use one’s home. Items are collected obsessively which have little or no real monetary value. Distress is caused when adults think about or are forced to discard possessions. On this event, we encourage attendance from staff across NAC and all multi agency, to understand this Disorder and what we can do as professionals to limit further distress and trauma.
Commercial Sexual Exploitation Awareness

Commercial Sexual Exploitation (CSE) is abuse of individuals, usually women and children, to perform sexual acts in exchange for money, drugs, alcohol, shelter, food and protection. It is a form of gender-based violence that commodifies victims involving exploitation of their vulnerabilities. We encourage attendance from across NAC and our multi-agency partners, to learn about CSE and how it affects victims. What can be done to support victims, and how it relates to the Adult Support & Protection (Scotland) Act 2007.
Understanding Domestic Abuse

Domestic Abuse is an incident or a pattern of incidents of controlling, coercion, threatening, degrading and violent behaviour, including sexual violence. We encourage attendees from across NAC and multi-agency partners, to understand the impact of domestic abuse on both adults and children, as well as exploring forms of abuse and the associated victim behaviours.
Psychological Harm Awareness

Psychological harm is a severe form of deliberate abuse and trauma, that damages victims’ mental health, causing distress fear, anxiety and altered behaviour. We encourage attendance from staff across NAC and multi-agency to learn about tactics, as well as different forms of psychological harm, including coercive control and gaslighting.
