Have a green Valentine's Day

Our Energy and Sustainability team have written a poem to encourage everyone to make green choices this Valentine's Day. Show your Valentine and Mother Nature some love with their eco tips for the 14th of February!
This Valentine’s Day,
let’s share a little cheer,
Right here in North Ayrshire, the place we all hold dear.
A day of love, of laughs, of doing things that last…
And giving our recycling a Valentine’s blast!
Take a low‑carbon
date - go on, give it a try,
A stroll along the shoreline under our unpredictable sky.
If the wind’s too wild (as it sometimes is here),
Just pretend it’s “romantic ambience” and hold someone dear.
Choose gifts made
local - it’s thoughtful and smart,
Supporting makers and bakers who craft with their heart.
Or make something yourself… yes, even you can succeed,
Nothing says ‘I adore you’ like a homemade romantic deed.
Cook with local
goodies, go full Ayrshire pride,
Tatties, berries, cheese… all grown just outside.
A meal made with love and local supply,
Tastes better than anything money can buy.
Wrap your gifts
wisely - reuse bags with a grin,
Tie that ribbon you’ve kept in the “might use again” tin.
And if you wrap with newspaper from 2002...
That’s not weird, it’s “vintage”, and your Valentine will thank you.
Reduce a bit of waste
- show the bin some love,
Keep leftovers, recycle, give compost a shove.
Because nothing says romance like a tidy food caddy,
Show your valentine and the earth some love, it's not so hard eh?
So here’s to you - our brilliant
communities,
For keeping it kind with heart and a laugh.
A Valentine’s that’s greener, lighter, more carbon-free fun…
North Ayrshire’s climate love story has just begun.
Thanks to everyone who wants to do their part to love the planet this Valentine's Day!
