Healthy Hearts Garnock Valley event

If you live in the Garnock Valley, why not go along to the Healthy Hearts event, which is being held on Wednesday 14 October from 10.30am to 6.30pm at Dalry Primary School (please use the KA Leisure entrance).

No appointment is necessary, just drop in at a time that suits, and refreshments will be available.

Visitors to the event can access free heart screening and additional health checks where needed/requested. You’ll also find a host of information on what you can do to keep yourself healthy and reduce your risk of heart disease.

Please help to spread the word with residents you may be working with already...

In addition, there’s a chance to take part in some fantastic wellbeing taster sessions, as well as the opportunity to chat to a wide range of local organisations and services that can provide support and advice on a wide range of other health, wellbeing and social issues.

Taster sessions available:

  • CPR training for all ages: Learn how to recognise a cardiac arrest, perform CPR, and use a defibrillator (11am, 1pm, 3.40pm)
  • Chair exercises: A fun taster session for all abilities (11.40am)
  • Relaxation sessions: A quiet session for all abilities (12pm, 3.20pm)
  • Strength and balance: Can be delivered seated or standing (12.20pm)
  • Step Counting activity session: (12.40pm)
  • Deep breathing for lung health: (1.40pm)
  • 35 to 40 minute outdoor walk: All welcome (2pm – meet at KA Leisure entrance to the school)
  • Looking after your health: Session lead by Chest Heart and Stroke Scotland (2.20pm)
  • Tai Chi for beginners: Can be delivered seated or standing (2.40pm)
  • Brain health: Advice on preventing dementia (3pm)

  • Ability.Net: Information about digital training and support for those with disabilities
  • Active Travel Hub: Learn more about sustainable transport options and walking activities in North Ayrshire
  • Ayshire Independent Living Network (AILN): Information and advice on Self-Directed Support
  • Breast Screening Team, NHS A&A: Learn more about the Breast Screening programme in Ayrshire and Arran
  • Café Solace: Learn more about Café Solace, including volunteering options
  • Carers Gateway North Ayrshire: Find out more about the support available for unpaid carers
  • CLASP: Information on health and wellbeing classes, digital tuition, befriending, and social activities for over 50s in North Ayrshire
  • Community Link Workers: How to access support for individuals aged 16+ who are experiencing social, emotional or practical issues that are affecting their health and wellbeing
  • Dalry Community Garden: Learn more about volunteering and learning new skills at the community garden
  • Dalry Community Larder: Find out how to access low cost food in the community whilst reducing food waste
  • Dementia support: Explore the support available for people with dementia and their families from NHS A&A’s Dementia Nurse Consultant and Ayrshire Independent Living Network’s Dementia Café
  • Dirrans Centre: Learn more about rehabilitation services for those with a physical disability, brain injury, neurological condition or long term condition
  • HARP (Health & Active Rehabilitation Programme): Accessing education, advice and support for those with multiple long-term conditions
  • Improving the Cancer Journey service: Learn how those affected by cancer can access support for non-clinical concerns
  • Lemon Aid: Find out how to access support around energy related issues and reduce fuel poverty
  • MSK Service, NHS A&A: Information on available support for those with musculoskeletal conditions, including arthritis
  • NAC Libraries: Find out more about the services and activities provided by libraries in North Ayrshire
  • Neighbourhood Networks: Hear about the support available for adults with learning disabilities, physical disabilities and mental health issues to live an active, healthy and safe life
  • Quit Your Way: How to access support to stop smoking
  • Respect: Learn how to access a ReSPECT plan, ensuring any emergency care provided by health professionals fits in with your values and priorities
  • Respiratory service, NHS A&A: Find out more about common respiratory conditions and the support available to help you manage your health
  • Scottish Fire and Rescue Service: How to prevent fires in the home and keep everyone safe
  • Smart Living Hub: Explore innovative technology and practical technology solutions that help people stay independent, safe, connected and well in their own homes
  • The Ayrshire Community Trust (TACT): Find out more about employability support and volunteering opportunities. You can also learn more about TACT’s befriending service to reduce social isolation
  • Turning Point Scotland: How to access support around issues with alcohol and/or other drugs
  • Walking aid clinic: Worn tips on your walking aid can make using them less safe. Take advantage of a free walking aid check-up from NHS A&A’s MSK service
  • Wee School Pantry, Kilbirnie: Find out how to access affordable food in the community
  • Weight Management Service, NHS A&A: Information and advice on maintaining a healthy weight
  • Money Smart: Learn more about how to access welfare rights and debt advice from the team

How to request transport to the event:

If you require transport to attend the event, please fill out the request form. You will be asked to provide contact details, select a pick-up location, and any additional mobility or transport requirements. Your travel arrangements will be confirmed prior to the event.
