Care Experienced Week is coming at the end of October and the Corporate Parenting team have lots of fun planned!

What is Care Experienced Week?

Care Experienced Week takes place at the end of October every year. It is a week to celebrate the Care Experienced community and provide opportunities to connect with organiser Who Cares? Scotland and other communities.

Beginning on week commencing Monday 27 October, this year’s theme is “Rights”, celebrating all stages of care experience and amplifying voices to support The Promise – Scotland’s promise to all care experienced children and young people.

Being care experienced means that a person – either currently or at some point in their lives – has been in the care of a local authority for any length of time. Care can cover a range of different situations and circumstances including living in residential care, with foster or adoptive parents or kinship care with support from other family members or friends.

As a local authority, North Ayrshire Council has a statutory duty to provide support and scaffolding to all care experienced children and young people. We are corporate parents alongside other organisations including the Health and Social Care Partnership, Ambulance Service, Police Scotland and Scottish Fire and Rescue to name a few…

This Care Experienced Week, the council will support our Corporate Parenting team to spread awareness of the rights and entitlements for all care experienced residents in North Ayrshire.

The Corporate Parenting team – part of our Community Learning and Development Service – will be running a both corporate and public events throughout the week and these have been arranged in partnership with North Ayrshire’s Champions Board.

Run for and by young people alongside dedicated corporate parenting youth workers, the network of care experienced secondary school pupils meet in schools on a monthly basis to make their voices heard, speak up for what support is needed, organise events and inform other council services on what actions need to be taken to ensure we #KeepThePromise
