Using social media responsibly

As part of our ongoing commitment to fostering a positive working environment, we are pleased to introduce the following HR Guides:

These guides have been developed in conjunction with our Trade Unions and cross council representation to support all employees in using social media responsibly, both inside and outside the workplace.

Social media plays a central role in how we communicate. While it offers valuable opportunities, it also comes with responsibilities. The Guides help everyone understand expectations, responsibilities and expected conduct - particularly when posts, comments or online interactions could have an impact on colleagues, our workplace, or the reputation of North Ayrshire Council.

What the Social Media Guides cover:

  • appropriate use of professional and personal social media
  • guidance on representing North Ayrshire Council online
  • recommended best practice to help you use social media safely and professionally
  • processes for raising concerns or seeking support
  • consequences of inappropriate social media use

The Social Media Guides can be accessed via Connects, and we encourage all employees to read these Guides carefully.

If you have questions or need further guidance, please contact the HR Operations Team (shared mailbox).
