What is the Community Empowerment Act?

An infographic which explains some of the key points about the Community Empowerment Act

In North Ayrshire, community empowerment means giving local people the confidence, skills, and real decision-making power to shape local services, manage community assets, and drive positive change in their neighbourhoods.

  • Local Control: Decisions are made as close as possible to the communities they affect through structures like our six locality partnerships
  • Participatory Budgeting: Residents directly decide how public funds - such as local participatory budgeting initiatives - are spent on community projects
  • Community Asset Transfer: Local voluntary and social enterprise groups can take over the ownership and responsibility of council-owned land and buildings
  • Tackling Inequalities: Partners focus on wellbeing, reducing inequality, and ensuring vulnerable or marginalised voices are not left behind.
