World Suicide Prevention Day

Wednesday 10 September is World Suicide Prevention Day. In North Ayrshire, partnership work is ongoing to help prevent and address suicide and its devastating impact.

Wednesday 10 September is World Suicide Prevention Day, a time to raise awareness, acknowledge the impact of suicide and connect with those who can offer support.

Suicide is of concern to all of us, yet still we find it difficult to talk about – but starting the conversation is what is important. Talking openly can help someone process their thoughts and feelings and perhaps help them realise there are other options.

Please visit our Suicide Prevention page on Connects for information on the help and support available if you, or someone you know is having suicidal thoughts or has been affected by suicide.

All part of the wider World Suicide Prevention Month campaign, Suicide Prevention Scotland are asking the question – “What if a conversation could save a life?” – watch the video below for more info…

This week we will be signposting to support and sharing messages via our social media channels to support Suicide Prevention Month.

There will also be the launch of Shout in partnership with North Ayrshire Council’s Education service and the NA Health and Social Care Partnership and this text based service for North Ayrshire residents can provide support via an initial text message alert – news to follow on this later this week…

If you need support, there are many organisations that can provide support and advice, including:

If you have been affected by suicide or are having thoughts of suicide yourself, please seek help. You are not alone.

If you need support, please remember you are not alone, see the helplines above or make an appointment with your GP to take the first steps. Call 999 for anyone whose life is at imminent risk.
