Support Sharan's strides in memory of her daughter

Our lovely colleague Sharan Sibley will be taking on the Kiltwalk Challenge in memory of her late daughter Debbie.

As she gets closer to her £1,250 target, can you support Sharan by making a JustGiving donation to help her cause?

Sharan from our Cunninghame House Café on 4 is set to take part in Glasgow's Mighty Stride Kiltwalk in Glasgow next month, in memory of her daughter Debbie.

This time last year, the Glasgow Kiltwalk raised just shy of £3million for over 1,000 Scottish charities. Sharan's Challenge will raise vital funds for Breast Cancer Now - a charity dedicated to world-class research and life-changing care.

Sharan alongside her husband Will and family members and friends will be taking on the 20-mile walking challenge - something Debbie would have loved...

Sharan shares: “My beloved daughter had a real zest for life and really lived for every moment. Sadly Debbie was diagnosed with Triple Negative Breast Cancer in April 2021 and lost her battle with cancer in 2023.

"She was a determined young women, and even when she was diagnosed and bravely fought during her battle with breast cancer, she continued to think of others and raise awareness of the horrible disease.

"Debbie was also a member of Stockton Striders Running Club and had previously ran the York Marathon, Edinburgh Half Marathon and the Great North Run – her last run in 2022 saw her raising over £10,000 for South Tees Hospitals NHS Trust.

"I'm proud to say that Debbie was an active fundraiser right up until her final days, and she wrote her own blog throughout called “Just Another Challenge” to document the challenges that life threw at her, including being registered blind at age 18 and being diagnosed with MS when she was 21."

Her daughter's resilience and unwillingness to give up is something that continues to inspire Sharan to this day. Sharan adds:

“It is now my time to take on the challenge in memory of Debbie. No matter little, I would be so grateful if you could help me with my fundraising efforts. As a family we are aiming to raise £5,000 between us and my target is £1,250. I'm already nearing £1,150 so I'm hopeful that if colleagues could help our fundraising efforts - no pressure, just if you can - we can get to the target before I reach the Kiltwalk finish line. I feel privileged to be doing the Kiltwalk on the weekend of the 26th April in Debbie's memory alongside my husband Will – the chef at Greenwood Academy, my sister in law, nieces and nephew along with my work colleagues and Michael who is also a cook responsible for the delicious treats we have here at Café on 4."

Sharan herself was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2017 and had her remission milestone in 2022, something that was impossible to celebrate as not long after her daughter's oncologist confirmed that Debbie's cancer was incurable.

Sharan concludes: "I think and miss Debbie everyday. Her positivity and courage continues to inspire us all.

“Debbie fought a good fight in her battle against her illness before she passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family and friends at Alice House Hospital in April 2023.

"I am doing the Kiltwalk in support for such a worthy cause that is so close to my heart. If you want to make a donation please click the link in this article to help us mark this milestone together and celebrate Debbie's legacy. Thank you."
